PUBLIC SCREENING PLANNED OUTDOORS FOR HISTORIC RIVER OAKS THEATRE 83rd BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
While the historic 1939 River Oaks Theatre at 2009 West Gray remains closed, awaiting new property owner Kimco Realty’s decision on a potential tenant, the supportive community group “Friends of River Oaks Theatre” won’t let that stop a celebration of the grand old lady’s 83rd birthday.
In the spirit of “Bring her Back” they’re taking the party out back – to the back of the building and sidewalks with a free screening of film clips from memorable movies shown in the past at their beloved River Oaks Theatre.
Mister McKinney’s Historic Houston will project the clips from the Houston History Bus. Fans may submit favorite movie titles for consideration to be included in the reel here.
The free screening event, organized by Friends of River Oaks Theatre, is an opportunity for like-minded fans to meet, share memories, and celebrate the beloved movie house on her 83rd birthday. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at nearby establishments on the block at River Oaks Shopping Center to include Marfreless River Oaks Bar and Lounge. Or how about grabbing a meal – or piece of cake – beforehand at Epicure Café?
